Our impact
North Tyneside Big Local (NTBL) was established in 2012 as part of an innovative approach to
community led development known as the Big Local programme. Big Local was a National Lottery backed initiative, which aimed to support communities directly through the management of long-term funding for areas. Whitley Bay was one of 150 'Big Local Areas' and as part of the Big Local's legacy plan, a constituted organisation was established, first under the name of Whitley Bay Big Local, before expanding its reach to all of North Tyneside.
Although the charity ‘closed out’ of the big local programme in 2024, it continues to work in a 'Big Local Way', supporting resident-led development and aiming to bring people together to make North Tyneside a better place to live, work and visit.
The charity owns and bases its operations from a community hub in the heart of Whitley Bay which houses a community café with garden, affordable shop, activity spaces and meeting rooms. It is a busy and thriving hub for all the community.

Our vision is to make North Tyneside an even better place to live. A place where people feel more connected to each other and to their local communities.
Mission
We develop the skills, confidence and opportunity of local people to address identified needs and take action in response to them. Working together with local communities we help people to take action to improve their local areas. To enable action we provide community space, information, advice, guidance and signposting. We work together to improve the lives of local people and make North Tyneside an even better place to live, work and visit.

We will treat everyone with fairness and respect and provide information, advice, guidance and signposting to help people to take action.
